5 reasons why Sunset is the most livable neighborhood in San Francisco

Sure, it’s on the other side of Twin Peaks and might be the foggiest neighborhood in the city but here’s the truth: Sunset District is the most livable neighborhood in San Francisco right now.

For those considering to move to San Francisco and started on house search, I’m sure you hit the heavy road block of factors like parking situation, living space, and HIGH cost of living in this city. While all of the rumors about San Francisco and Bay Area is true (Yes, this place is ridiculously expensive to live) you have good chance finding something nice in Sunset District. Here’s why:

I moved to San Francisco about 3 years ago from LA via London, and at that point my ideal housing situation was pretty clear in my mind: A neighborhood that is accessible to the city by train or bus and still has a quiet ambience with its own charm enveloped within. Outer Sunset District, where I’ve been living since day one in SF, has been strangely comfortable.

5 GREAT THINGS ABOUT SUNSET DISTRICT:

  1. Has the best viewpoint in the whole city.

Grand View Park which is located at Moraga Street/15th Avenue is one of the most beautiful parks to run/hike to enjoy sunrise and sunset. How awesome to have such beautiful nature right outside your door? And yes of course you have the glorious look of Golden Gate Bridge from the top of this hilly park.

Here’s some of photos from Grand View Park hike:

 3. Beach and Bonfire!

Sunset District is essentially a beach town. If you live west of 19th Avenue you are in walking distance to Ocean Beach. Who doesn’t like summer days out on the wide open beach with sunshine?

At night, you can also set up bonfire and hold small acoustic guitar session with good friends around the fire permitted area. While you’re here, also stop by Java Beach Cafe on Judah Street for sandwiches, salads, and regularly scheduled music + poetry events.

5. Awesome farmers market every Sunday.

Sunset District has several good produce markets such as Andronico’s Market, Noriega Produce, and of course Trader Joe’s but on top of that, we even have a weekly farmers market that provides wonderful opportunity to buy organic and locally grown fresh produce from farms all around California.

Stonestown Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9am to 1pm at the parking lot behind Macy’s. The market event usually has food trucks, playhouse for kids, and music performance. It’s really a good place to spend the Sunday morning and get some fresh veggies and fruits from the hands of makers.
